Band of Bothers is our monthly men’s meeting.
We meet on the first Saturday of each month and enjoy a number of events, from teaching to social times, around a full English breakfast. It is important for men to meet together and learn, share and build relationships as men and with other men.
Men are often their own worst enemies, thinking they have to tough it out and soldier on. Cowboys don’t cry, well not in front of their horse anyway. This often makes for a very lonely place. Our vision for Band of Brothers is, as the name suggests, becoming a band of brothers.
At the heart of the film series “Band of Brothers” is the incredible bond that is formed as easy company have to go through extraordinary difficult times and situations. It is when men share their deepest fears and find another man who will stand the ground with them that this bond or “band” is formed.
Band of Brothers is the story of "E" Easy Company, 506th Regiment of the 101st Airborne Division from their initial training, starting in 1942 to the end of World War II. They parachuted behind enemy lines in the early hours of D-Day in support of the landings at Utah beach, participated in the liberation of Carentan and again parachuted into action during Operation Market Garden. They also liberated a concentration camp and were the first to enter Hitler's mountain retreat in Berchtesgarten. A fascinating tale of comradeship that is, in the end, a tale of ordinary men who did extraordinary things.
Ordinary men who did extraordinary things, this is the sentiment that lies at the heart of all men - Honour, bravery, strength, heroism and beating the odds. Jesus was this kind of man, He was our perfect example.
Philippians 2:5-11
5 Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus:
6 Who, being in very nature God,
did not consider equality with God something to be grasped,
7 but made himself nothing,
taking the very nature of a servant,
being made in human likeness.
8 And being found in appearance as a man,
He humbled himself
and became obedient to death—even death on a cross!
9 Therefore God exalted him to the highest place
and gave him the name that is above every name,
10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow,
in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
11 and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord,
to the glory of God the Father.
