Rod and I are known as the senior Gordon's here at OXCI. The junior Gordon's are our son Brennan and his wife Lee. Their five children, Travis, Rene, Noah, Naomi and Ryan are known as the nano Gordon's. We have been a part of this wonderful "Body of Christ" since its beginning in 2004.
Rod and I met for the first time in 1965 on a baseball field, and then three weeks later we started going steady. That’s when our journey together started, and what a journey it’s been! Praise the Lord for His mercy.
Both of us came to know the Lord in October 1983. We were in the "City of Life" church in Pinetown, and we were baptised in April 1984 in a swimming pool.
I am British and I returned home to the UK when our two children and their families had just left, and were about to leave, South Africa. Rod followed in 2000.
We are permanent night OSG's (officer support group) in a local prison here in Oxfordshire. God has gone before us ever since we came to England and provided for all our needs. We first drove busses in the London area together. Then God enabled us to work together again in three different prisons since we have been in Oxford.
Besides our son Bren, we also have a daughter called Bridget who lives in Perth, Australia with her husband Warren, and their two children Reece and Paige.
We met Cliff and Hayley at a barbeque given by Bren and Lee in August 2004. We got together with them again in September 2004 on the beautiful grounds of Blenheim, where we had a fantastic picnic (never to be repeated). That was when we believed that the Lord was calling us to Oxford Church International.
But we were living in Dunstable at the time. So we got up earlier on Sundays and travelled the long way to church meetings, as do many other members in OXCI. Then the Lord moved us to Merton and since then we have been serving the Lord in the "Tea Ministry" which we love to do.
Last year we were asked if we would consider being Deacons, and this for us was a great honour and privilege.
We believe it is a privilege and honour to give of our time, treasure and talent (which I sometimes wonder what that is - but the Lord knows).
We want to see our and others’ lives changed by the power of the Holy Spirit and live by word and deed. We hope to see OXCI grow and that all who come to visit or join OXCI would encounter the presence of the Lord, be saved, serve, give and be able to receive too.
To God be the glory great things He has done.
Praise His Name.
